SEPTEMBER 06 - Z-LED HELPS SIMPLIFY BUILD PROCESS
A
new residential development in the heart of Reading has utilised new materials
and technology to achieve accelerated construction.
Crest Nicholson’s “Q” eight storey block of apartments is
constructed from a concrete frame and using the MetSec metal stud system, the
development incorporates Z-Led’s Multi-Crease Roll to form cavity trays
above lintels and at each floor level.
Peter Lawman, site manager for the project, observed, “Using the MetSec
system meant we did not have an inner skin of blockwork to build the cavity
trays into. Z-Led’s product overcame this problem as it is rigid enough
to be self-supporting whilst the bricklayers build it into the external skin
of brickwork. They can then simply tape the top edge of the tray into the cavity
insulation. The bricklayers have found it a very easy material to use.”
Crest Nicholson has used Z-Led Multi-Crease ‘off the roll’ to
form long runs of cavity trays, and short pre-cut lengths have been overlapped
to cope with a large curved section of the building. Pre-formed internal and
external corners have also been supplied.
Z-Led Multi-Crease Roll is created from a polypropylene sheet, formed with
a series of integral continuous creases, enabling easy folding to suit the
particular application. Simply by following the crease numbers, builders can
use Z-Led Multi-Crease Roll as a cavity tray over most proprietary lintels.
It can also be used to form a continuous cavity tray eg at ground level or
in parapets, or to create a cavity barrier solution where protection from ground
gases is required. The system is simply cut to the required length, reducing
the need for on-site jointing, folded as necessary, and mortared into position.
Self-supporting and complying with BS5628:Part 3 2001, Multi-Crease can be used
in cavities from 50-100mm over lintels without need to incorporate the system
into the building inner leaf. A non-slip textured spark finish on one side of
the tray aids mortar adhesion.
